Vault Passcodes & Face ID:One passcode per vault.

Every vault in MaxVault has its own 4 to 8 digit passcode, separate from your iPhone’s. The passcode you type when MaxVault opens decides which vault appears, so each one shows only its own files. Face ID or Touch ID unlocks your vault, and a MaxVault Account set up for recovery can send a recovery email to its registered address.

What Vault Passcodes & Face ID does

A passcode decides the vault

Type one passcode and your family photos open; type another and your work files do. Each vault shows only its own files.

Separate from your iPhone

Someone who knows your iPhone passcode still can’t open any of your vaults.

Face ID or Touch ID

Unlock with a glance or a touch, with your passcode as the fallback.

Require Passcode

Ask again immediately, or after anything from 30 seconds to 5 minutes away from the app.

Passcode Delay

After several wrong entries, each further attempt has to wait longer.

Passcode recovery

If you set up a MaxVault Account for recovery, tap Forgotten Passcode? to request a recovery email.

Nothing left on screen

When you leave, MaxVault can close the photo browser, locked folders, notes and the browser.

Set your passcodes

Full guide: How to lock a folder on iPhone
  1. Open Settings → Vaults and tap your vault.
  2. Tap Turn Passcode On and enter a 4 to 8 digit passcode. MaxVault asks you to create a MaxVault Account first, so a forgotten passcode can be recovered.
  3. Turn on Unlock using Face ID (or Touch ID).
  4. Choose when to ask again in Require Passcode.
  5. For each extra vault, tap Add New Vault and give it a different passcode with the same number of digits as your Primary vault’s.

Vault Passcodes & Face ID: questions.

Why does MaxVault need an account to set a passcode?

The MaxVault Account is how you get back in if you forget your passcode: MaxVault can send it to the account’s email address. Without one, nobody, including Support, could recover it.

How do several passcodes work?

Each vault has its own passcode, and every passcode must be different. Whichever one you enter when MaxVault opens decides which vault appears, and that vault shows only its own files. Secondary vault passcodes use the same number of digits as the Primary vault’s.

Can I use a different passcode from my iPhone’s?

Yes, and you should. Vault passcodes are completely separate, so people who know your iPhone passcode still can’t open any of your vaults.

What happens after too many wrong attempts?

With Passcode Delay on, MaxVault makes each further attempt wait longer. With Capture Break-ins on, it also takes a photo of whoever is trying.
