Frequently asked questions.
Find answers to common questions about MaxVault (formerly Pocket Files), from protecting your files and recovering your passcode to backups, transfers and purchases. Can’t find your answer? Contact support.
Where are my files stored?
Files you save in MaxVault stay on your device. MaxVault does not upload them to a Rambax server. If you choose to copy a file to iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, or another sharing service, that copy is handled by the service you choose.
How does MaxVault protect my privacy?
MaxVault stores and hides files on your device. They are not uploaded to the Internet or a Rambax server unless you choose to save or share a copy through a service such as iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or another provider. WiFi Transfer works only on your local WiFi network.
How do passcodes and locked folders work?
Every vault has its own passcode, and the passcode you enter when MaxVault opens decides which vault appears. Individual folders can have their own password too, and Face ID or Touch ID can unlock both when supported by your device. MaxVault can protect files stored in its own folders; it cannot lock copies that remain in Photos, Files, iCloud Drive, or another app.
What if I forget my passcode?
If you previously set up a MaxVault Account for recovery, tap Forgotten Passcode? on the lock screen to request an email at that account’s address. You need access to that email account. If recovery was not set up or the email does not arrive, contact Support for help checking your options. Support cannot retrieve a passcode for you.
Can I create more than one vault?
Yes. Each vault has its own files and folders, and you open it by entering its separate passcode at launch. This is useful for keeping different collections apart.
How do I switch between vaults?
Use the Vaults control in the File Manager to choose a vault or create another one. Each vault keeps a separate set of folders and files and can use its own passcode.
What does the private browser do?
The built-in browser supports multiple tabs and can download files directly into MaxVault. You can choose to clear browsing history and data when you close the browser.
Can I lock files in the iTunes Files or cloud folders?
No. Files in iTunes Files, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and other cloud folders can also be accessed outside MaxVault, so those folders cannot be password protected. Move sensitive files into a regular MaxVault folder to protect them.
How do I back up or restore my files?
MaxVault keeps its files inside the app on your device and does not back them up to a Rambax server. If you delete the app or move to a new device, restore your device from an iCloud or computer backup to keep those files. We recommend enabling iCloud Backup and keeping a separate copy of anything important. You can use WiFi Transfer or Apple File Sharing to copy your files to a computer.
How do I move my files to a new iPhone or iPad?
Apple’s device-to-device transfer or an iCloud or computer backup and restore is the simplest way to move the whole app. Before changing devices, keep a separate backup of important files. MaxVault also lets you move selected files or folders: Transfer to Device (open MaxVault on both devices on the same WiFi, then choose Transfer to Device from the item’s More menu), WiFi Transfer to a computer’s web browser, or Apple File Sharing through Finder on a Mac or the Apple Devices app on Windows.
How do I transfer files with a computer?
WiFi Transfer lets you move files between MaxVault and a computer in a web browser while both devices are on the same local network. You can also use Apple File Sharing: Finder on a Mac, or the Apple Devices app (or iTunes on older Windows setups).
Can I use iCloud Drive or other cloud accounts?
Yes. MaxVault can work with iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and, when available, Google Drive. Turn on the folders you want in Settings → File Manager → Show Folders. Files left in a cloud folder are governed by that cloud service, so move sensitive files into a MaxVault folder if you want them protected by MaxVault.
Can I recover a file I deleted?
If Trash Bin is enabled, deleted files are moved there first and can be restored until you permanently remove them. Once a file is permanently deleted, MaxVault cannot recover it, so keep a backup of anything important.
How can I arrange my files manually?
Open the More menu in a folder and choose Order. Then drag and drop items into the order you want and tap Done to save it. Tap Cancel instead if you do not want to keep the changes.
Can I sort my files in a different order?
Tap the current sort order in the folder header and choose Name, File Size, Update Date, or, in MaxVault folders, Import Date. Choose the same option again to reverse the order.
How can I change thumbnail size or view items as a list?
Tap the View Style button in the folder header, then choose List View, Small Grid, Medium Grid, or Large Grid. You can also pinch to change the view.
How do I rename a photo, video, file, or folder?
Open the item’s More menu and choose File Settings or Folder Settings. Edit the name, then tap Done to save it.
How do I select multiple items?
Open the More menu and choose Select, or double-tap with two fingers. Tap items to select them, then use the available actions to move, share, or delete them. Use Select All to select every item in the current folder.
What is a bookmark file?
A bookmark file is a saved web link in your vault. Create one with Add → Bookmark or save the current page in MaxVault’s private browser. Tap the bookmark to open the link in the browser.
Can MaxVault find duplicate files?
Yes. The Duplicates folder helps you review matching files so you can decide which copies to keep. Review the files before deleting anything. MaxVault does not decide for you.
Can I edit photos, videos, or make a collage?
Yes. MaxVault includes a photo editor for cropping, drawing, filters, adjustments, blurring, redaction, and metadata cleanup. The video editor can trim, rotate, crop, adjust quality, and choose a thumbnail frame. You can also create a photo collage from 2 to 6 photos. See the Photo & Video Editor.
How do I change the icon of a video file?
Open the video’s More menu, choose Settings, then choose Icon. For a standard video, MaxVault opens the frame picker. Drag the frame selector to the image you want and tap Done.
Which video and audio formats can MaxVault play?
All the popular ones, including MKV, AVI, WMV, FLV, WEBM, VOB, FLAC and OGG. See the full list on the Media Player page.
How do I view a quick tour of the app?
Open the More menu from the top toolbar and choose Walkthrough. The tour highlights the main controls, including vaults, item settings, and transfer options.
I already purchased Premium. How do I restore it?
If MaxVault is not showing Premium access, open the purchase screen and select Restore Purchase. Use the same Apple Account used for the original purchase. The purchase screen may be hidden while Premium is active. If a previous purchase is still missing, contact Support so we can check your options.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple and cannot be cancelled inside MaxVault. Follow Apple’s subscription-cancellation instructions.
