How to unzip files on iPhone
Short answer
In the Files app, tap a ZIP file and iOS extracts it into the same folder. To unzip privately, including password-protected archives, import the ZIP into MaxVault, open its More menu and choose Unzip; enter the password if asked. To make a ZIP, select items in MaxVault and choose Zip.
Option 1: The Files app
Tap a .zip file in Files and iOS extracts a folder next to it. It's quick, but the contents land in your ordinary Files storage, where any app with Files access can see them.
Option 2: Unzip inside MaxVault
- Get the ZIP into MaxVault with + → Import from Files, WiFi Transfer, the share sheet, or a download in the private browser.
- Open the ZIP's More menu and choose Unzip.
- If the archive is password-protected, MaxVault asks for the ZIP's password.
The extracted folder stays inside your vault.
Make a ZIP
- Select the items you want (More → Select, or double-tap with two fingers).
- Choose Zip.
Handy for sending a whole folder in one message, or backing it up to a computer.
Troubleshooting
- "The ZIP password is incorrect": passwords are case-sensitive; check with the sender.
- "This ZIP archive is too large to extract safely": split it into smaller archives on a computer, or free up space.
