How to scan documents privately on iPhone
Notes and Files can scan documents, but the scans end up in iCloud and ordinary storage. To keep sensitive documents like passports or tax forms private, open a locked folder in MaxVault and tap + → Scan: each page is saved as an image inside the folder, never in your camera roll.
The built-in way
The Notes app (tap the camera button → Scan Documents) and the Files app (••• → Scan Documents) both scan well. The scans live in Notes or Files, usually synced to iCloud, and anyone who can unlock your phone can open them.
Scan into MaxVault
- In MaxVault, open (or create) the folder for the document, such as IDs & Passports.
- Tap + → Scan.
- Hold your iPhone over the page. It captures automatically, or tap the shutter. Add more pages if needed.
- Tap Save. Each page is saved to the folder as an image.
The pages never touch your camera roll.
Lock the folder
Give the folder its own password in Folder Settings → Folder Password (step-by-step). Then even someone who knows your MaxVault passcode can't open it.
Before sharing a scan
Use the Photo Editor to redact account or ID numbers you don't need to share, and remove the location stored in the image.
